MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is required (Red Seal Certification).
• Previously documented codings
• Valid Driver’s Licence.
• Must complete a mandatory competency assessment. (e.g. 6 G Welding Test with GTAW)

EXPERIENCE

• Proven 5 years of experience as a welder.

DUTIES

• Have an extensive understanding of welding work
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and processes; e.g. GTAW, SMAW, GMAW and ALU.
  • Experience in structural and pipe welding/pipe fitting.
  • Confident in mild steel and stainless steel welding.

  • Highly skilled with a grinder – preparation of welded surfaces and final finishing
  • Deftness and attention to detail.

• Read Manufacturing Drawings
  • Obtain drawings from the Supervisor.
  • Read the measurements to plan the layout and procedure.
  • Must be able to interpret welding symbols from the drawings.

  • Ensure that all jobs are executed according to the drawings provided and in a timeous manner, and of excellent quality.

• Assist with Planning, Scheduling & Monitoring of Work
  • Ensure that all jobs are planned accurately and to specifications.
  • Ensure that all jobs are scheduled timeously.
  • Ensure that all mechanical equipment is in working order to perform the functions required.
  • Determine appropriate welding equipment, consumables and method based on requirements.

• Support-related manufacturing requirements
  • Provide individual opinions on how to increase the quality of products that are being manufactured.

• Set up components for welding according to specifications
  • Cutting of materials with powered saws to match measurements.
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare parts to be welded.
  • Align components using callipers, rulers, etc and clamp pieces of material.
  • Welding components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions.

• Interpret welding-related requirements and troubleshoot welding problems
  • Evaluate the risks of the job and establish a plan to get the job done in the best and most efficient way possible.

• Testing structures
  • Inspecting surfaces before welding.
  • Quality control of workmanship on completion of the job.
  • Test and inspect welding structures to discover flaws.

• Health and Safety
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies, procedures and standards at all times.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards and willingness to wear the required PPE.

• Assist with Administration Responsibilities
  • Ensure that job sheets are filled in timeously and are not to be completed during working hours.
  • Ensure that vehicle logbooks are completed accurately.
  • Ensure that job sheets are accurate and a true reflection before invoicing.
  • Ensure that all job sheet scheduling is up to date at all times.

• Housekeeping
  • Ensure that your workstation is clean and presentable at all times.
