Mechanical Fitter

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

• Passed a Trade Test from a recognized training institution in South Africa 
• Valid South Africa driver’s license with no endorsements: 

B (a): Consists of automobiles with a tare weight of not more than 3,500 kilograms. A trailer with less than 750kg of tare capacity can also be attached. 
EB: Authorizes you to drive code B automobiles with a trailer of more than 750 kgs on top of the light articulated automobiles with a gross vehicle mass of 3,500 kgs or less. So, if you use any vehicle under class B to tore a trailer with more than 750 kgs, you need this license. 

EXPERIENCE 

• Experience in field of skill: 5 - 10 years 

DUTIES 

• Present good knowledge and physical ability to do the following: 

1) Identify and use hand tools 
2) Identify and use handheld power tools 
3) Identify and use engineering workshop equipment 
4) Measuring instruments related to job 
5) Basic rigging and lifting 
• Portray good ability in the following fields: 

1) Work independently on projects and tasks with limited input from supervisors 
2) Planning for complex tasks and co-ordination of support staff 
3) Readings of engineering drawings, tolerances and weld symbols including sketches 
4) Health and safety in a World Class engineering environment 

5) Arc welding/gas welding 
6) Knowledge of engineering metals 
• Portray exceptional knowledge and depth of skill in working on the following: 

1) Basic hand skills 
2) Bearings and bushes 
3) Keys and locking devices (taper locks, couplings etc.) 
4) Chain drives and V-belts including alignment 
5) Lubrication systems 
6) Gearboxes including fault finding 
7) Marking off 
8) Pumps 
9) Coupling alignment 
10) Thruster brakes 
11) Hydraulics 
12) Pneumatics (pipe work, valves, compressors) 
13) Conveyor systems including belts and rollers 
• Perform good housekeeping
