MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Matric certificate includes Mathematics.
• Trade-tested and experienced Toolmakers (new projects and tool maintenance/repair) are essential.
• Formal Tertiary education: Qualified Artisan Trade Tested (Toolmaker / Tool Jig & Die maker / Fitter & turner or equivalent trade test).
• Drivers Licence: Code 8- (required)
• Valid forklift and crane licenses are required.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 5 - 10 years experience in a Toolroom / Machine shop environment.
• Manual lathe, milling and grinding machine experience is a necessity.
• Welding ability for TIG and Arc welding is a necessity.
• Experience in the assembly of press, progression, blanking and draw tooling is a necessity.
• CNC operating experience on Siemens, Fanuc or Mazatrol Controls advantages.
• Programming experience on Visi Software, Fusion 360, Edge Cam or similar packages advantages.
• Experience in project management/ project team participation – inclusive of working to
tight production/project targets, is essential to this position.

• Read and interpret the details and requirements of a mechanical design drawing
  • Knowledge of different metals, materials and the characteristics of the material, especially during the manufacturing process.
  • Must be competent in reading mechanical drawings, manufacturing planning and manufacturing time management to achieve the completion of the task as set out on the aforesaid drawing.
• Planning Works and Manufacturing Parts
  • Planning machining by studying work orders, mechanical drawings, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.
  • Ability to assign production-related hours and tasks.
  • Plan repair work, and report on breakdown root causes, equipment faults and concerns to management.
• Operate Forklift truck and lifting equipment
  • Must be able to operate and have a forklift and lift equipment/crane licence.
• Attend to Breakdowns
  • Attend breakdowns, identify faults and problem-solve at the press with minimal downtime to aid production.
  • Plan repair work, and report on breakdown root causes, equipment faults and concerns to management.
• Manufacturing
  • Manufacture parts on time.
  • Manage own time when required to achieve project target timelines.
  • Manufacture parts to drawing requirements and functionality.
  • Ability to use the required measuring equipment to verify the quality received.
• Repairing, servicing and maintaining tools
  • Routine servicing and regrinding of tools.
  • Repair and maintenance of press tools / die repairs.
  • In new tooling – support new tooling and ancillary spares to support production activity and customer deadlines.
  • Assist in tooling buy-offs and trials.
  • Ensure adherence to Quality Management system requirements – participate in carrying out FMEA/related activities.
  • Carry out and document engineering-level changes to tools and modifications.
  • Test tools (electrical and hydraulic/pneumatic operation) before returning to the production document.
  • Understand and operate within budget/cost measures for tooling.
  • Assist with training of trainees and support technicians.

  • Maintaining continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
  • Documenting actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Identify and escalate any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage.
